Microsoft Wants to Overtake Google Using Bing that Leverages AI Powering ChatGPT
In 2019, Microsoft publicly endorsed OpenAI, the startup that created ChatGPT, with a $1 billion investment.
Since then, Microsoft has released Copilot, an AI coding tool that uses OpenAI's technologies to assist developers in automatically generating code. In an October blog post, the tech behemoth also announced plans to integrate OpenAI's picture generator, DALL-E, into its Image Creator in Bing.

Based on some media outlets, Microsoft intends to employ the same AI as ChatGPT to provide users with answers to some inquiries rather than just displaying relevant links. Microsoft is hoping that a feature incorporating the technology behind the AI chatbot, ChatGPT, would help its Bing search engine compete with Google. Microsoft is not wasting anytime on this and could debut the new AI-powered version of Bing by the end of March.
From a recent report by M Mahmood, we know that Google has a competitive to ChatGPT, LaMDA - Language Model for Dialogue Applications, but does not want to open it to public, due to "reputational risk.". To manage the risk, Google CEO, Sundar Pichai, has called "Code Red", as their could be clear impacts on Google's revenue, primarily driven by consumer behavior, when it comes to doing searches.
ChatGPT may prevent users from clicking on Google links with advertisements, which in 2021 generated $208 billion, or 81% of Alphabet's total revenue, according to Sridhar Ramaswamy, who oversaw Google's advertising operation from 2013 to 2018.

Our conclusion, winds are changing for Google and there will be even more headwinds as AI and leadership position shifts. Google has many of the nascent technologies in house, but it needs to quickly decide how to monetize them.
